Intelligent Medical Assistant Robot Based on FPGA

With the rapid advancement of integrated circuit technology and its deepening integration into healthcare, intelligent medical assistance robots have emerged as a focal point in industrial research. However, existing systems often suffer from critical limitations such as low functional modularity, insufficient hardware reconfigurability, and high manufacturing costs. To address these challenges, this study innovatively developed a dual-FPGA cooperative intelligent medical assistance robot system based on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware architecture. The system integrates a Sobel operator-enhanced edge detection algorithm for precise object recognition, a stereo vision ranging algorithm for medication positions, an inverse kinematics analytical algorithm for robotic arm control, and a PID control algorithm for motion regulation. By implementing a UART communication protocol, it achieves multi-sensor data fusion and load balancing between the dual FPGAs. Experimental results demonstrate that the robot system maintains full-process automation in drug sorting and transportation while exhibiting remarkably low resource utilization rates of 14%(LUT) and 31%(LUT) for the dual FPGAs. Compared to traditional ARM+MCU architectures, this design reduces unit costs by 20% while significantly enhancing hardware reconfigurability, demonstrating significant engineering applicability.
