Thin Film Copper Sensor for Ethanol Monitoring

Accurate measurement of ethanol is crucial across various industries such as beverages, food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Ethanol, being a volatile organic compound, poses risks in high concentrations, including health issues like cirrhosis, increased traffic accidents, and environmental harm. To address these challenges, copper oxide (CuO) is recognized for its gas sensing properties, making it valuable for detecting hazardous compounds. This study focuses on developing a thin film CuO sensor for ethanol detection. The sensor was fabricated by forming and stabilizing the Cu-Diethanolamine complex, followed by thin film deposition. It demonstrated high sensitivity, fast response, and stability in detecting ethanol concentrations. The device enabled precise control of ethanol during catalytic processes, outperforming previous sensors in terms of efficiency and reliability. This work contributes to advancements in ethanol detection, offering a cost-effective solution for industrial, environmental, and safety applications.
