Developing a Passwordless Authentication Solution Using Asymmetric Cryptography and Device Fingerprint Technology

The increasing complexity of password management and the necessity of two-factor authentication (2FA) to bolster security have made user experiences progressively cumbersome and less user-friendly. As the world trends towards passwordless authentication, various methods and technologies have been proposed, yet none have fully succeeded in replacing traditional passwords. This research critically evaluates previous studies and existing market solutions to develop an innovative passwordless authentication system. By integrating asymmetric cryptography with device fingerprinting technology, the proposed solution offers a significant enhancement in security while simultaneously improving usability. Asymmetric cryptography, utilizing public-private key pairs, ensures robust protection against cyber threats, while device fingerprinting provides a unique, non-replicable method for user verification by identifying and authenticating users based on their device characteristics. This combined approach eliminates the need for passwords, thereby simplifying the authentication process and enhancing the overall user experience. Our study details the design, implementation, and evaluation of this system, demonstrating its effectiveness and feasibility in providing a secure, user-friendly alternative to traditional password-based authentication.
