Advances in transient stability-constrained optimal power flow of power systems

Transient stability-constrained optimal power flow (TSCOPF) optimizes power flow while ensuring stability against potential contingencies. The main challenges faced by TSCOPF are the handling of transient constraints. Differential equations of the dynamic process and the inherent non-linearity of power systems make modeling and solving difficult. At present, four methods have been employed in TSCOPF, namely discretization methods, sequential methods, heuristic methods, and machine learning methods. The paper summarizes the latest literature review of these methods, including the transient stability criteria, handling of the stability constraints, computation flowchart, advantages and limitations, and so on. Moreover, under the rapid advancement of power systems, how they cope with the new elements and new characters is discussed. In the end, the existing research gap and further directions are presented.
