Experimental Study of a Bi-Directional Thermal and Electricity Prosumer with Simultaneous Heating and Cooling Heat Pump System

This study investigates the energy performance and economic feasibility of a bidirectional thermal and electrical energy prosumer system with simultaneous heating and cooling heat pumps (SHCHP) for smart city. The system was implemented at a pilot scale in a demonstration house in a smart village in Busan Eco Delta smart city, South Korea. Using surplus photovoltaic power generation, the SHCHP system provides simultaneous cooling and heating to meet the needs of the fourth-generation district heating and cooling network. The results of the experiment from July to August 2022 indicate that SHCHP can effectively balance energy supply and demand, with a coefficient of performance (COP) measured at 6.8. The system increased self-consumption by 4.8 % and improved the self-consumption-self-sufficiency balance by $\mathbf{2. 5 \%}$. These results show that SHCHP has the potential to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy utilization in residential buildings.
