Dynamic Optimization for Smart Ev Charging: Insights From the Dymobat Project

Smart charging and bidirectional electric vehicles (EVs) present a substantial opportunity to contribute to a sustainable and efficient energy system. The DymoBat project aims to develop advanced optimization solutions for next-generation e-mobility charging systems, leveraging distributed energy resources and 5G technologies with the implementation of standard protocols. The DymoBat architecture features a twolayer design to manage energy systems for single-cell configurations on the lower level with an Energy Management System (EMS), and multi-cell configurations controlled by a hub coordinator for multiple EMSs. Throughout this project, various use cases and challenges have emerged, necessitating comprehensive solutions. This paper provides an in-depth overview of the DymoBat project, outlining its objectives, use cases, challenges, and technical and communication strategies employed. These initiatives aim to advance towards more efficient energy system interaction and support the transition to a climate-neutral future. Additionally, the insights gained from the DymoBat project may aid policymakers in revising regulations to better integrate new technologies.
