A Verifiable and Secure E-Transcript System Using Self-Sovereign Id and Blockchain

E-Transcript systems are pivotal in academic digitalization, enhancing how institutions, students, and employers manage and verify academic credentials. Traditional systems using signed PDFs and centralized public key infrastructure (PKI) face challenges with key management overhead and robust authentication. Our proposed EV-Transcript system integrates self-sovereign identity (SSI), blockchain technology, and the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) to address these limitations. It utilizes decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and verifiable credentials (VCs) for secure credential management and introduces a robust access control mechanism through verifiable presentations, enabling students to manage access to their transcripts. Additionally, we introduced an optimized Schnorr protocol for improved proof performance and privacypreserving authentication between employers and the verification system via smart contracts. Finally, we present the evaluation and conduct the experiments to demonstrate the system's enhanced security, scalability, and practicality in decentralized credential verification.
