IEC 61850 Based Cyber Physical System in Smart Grid

In the evolving landscape of smart grid (SG) and its technologies, there is a continuous trend towards incorporation of zero-emission technologies. This integration sharpens the SG's and focuses on facilitating two-way communication across the generation, transmission, and distribution sectors. SG systems feature intricate architectures containing smart devices and infrastructures based on the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT platform within SG possess impressive speed, responsiveness, and reliability. However, it also faces a significant vulnerability to cyber-attacks. The scope of attacks extends beyond communication networks to encompass all elements of the SG connected to the network source. One such vulnerable component is the power system, which is susceptible to attacks. In response to these threats, various standards and protocols have been introduced to counter the cyber-attacks in SG. In this study, IEC 61850 based communication protocols are discussed which are hugely used in cyber physical system. IEC 61850 encompasses crucial protocols such as Manufacture Message Specification (MMS), Generic Object-Oriented Substation Event (GOOSE), and Sampled Values (SV). The study enlightens the cyber physical system within these protocols, aiming to capture the attention of researchers and authors working in the field of cyber-attack detection.
