Design and Implementation of an Agile L-Band Frequency Synthesiser for Modern Radar Systems

Frequency Synthesisers are vital for any communication or radar system. Synthesizer performance is the linchpin of the total system performance. This paper proposes designing and implementing an agile L-Band frequency synthesizer for modern radar systems. Design parameters, simulation, and implementation results are presented. The proposed design with modulation capability enables another dimension of using an RF synthesizer not only as a local oscillator for up and down conversion but also as an RF waveform generator. This paper also, discusses the synthesizer design challenges and performance analysis, such as phase noise analysis, output power variation, and SFDR within the synthesizer band.
