EMPRISE : Synthetic Environment for sensor design and virtual qualification

In this paper, we explore the expansive array of radar applications enabled by the EMPRISE (ElectroMagnetic Product and Radar Image Suite) framework, illustrating its capacity to create synthetic environments pivotal for electromagnetic sensor design. The EMPRISE scene model is designed to generate raw coherent signal data, sampled at the radar’s repetition frequency. This capability allows for addressing a broad spectrum of radar applications, ranging from high-detail requirements of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging sensors to the expansive scene simulations necessary for maritime patrol operations.After a short exposition of the framework’s core modeling principles, we provide a detailed presentation of various applications. These examples are further enriched through comparisons with real measurements, wherever possible, offering a tangible perspective on the framework’s efficacy and accuracy. In conclusion, we reflect on our progress and look ahead to the upcoming challenges and opportunities for the EMPRISE framework.
