Regional Language Reading Aid for Blind People Using Raspberry Pi

This paper introduces a novel, cost- effective, and efficient solution designed to make textual content accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds, especially those who are visually impaired. Leveraging the capabilities of the Raspberry Pi module B+, our system transforms printed and handwritten text into audible speech and camera captures the text. By integrating OCR and Text-to-Voice (TTV) conversion technology using Raspberry Pi framework, a prototype is modelled which allows the users to hear the voice of the image data fed in. This innovation aims to support individuals who are blind and maynot have access to Braille. The OCR component of the system extracts text from images, which is then converted into spoken words by the TTV module in the user's preferred Multi-languages. Voice is heard via earphones. This paper details the system's design, implementation, and the results obtained from various tests. Our results demonstrate the usefulness of the system by showing that it can successfully translate scanned text into comprehensible voice up to 93%.
