Risk Prevention Technology Responsive to the Psychological State of Patients in Nursing Homes

Prevention of health risks associated with patient's wandering and agitation is the most challenging problem of medical care in today's nursing homes. Existing information technologies aid caregivers in monitoring patients and collecting data related to behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. However, they do not consider the psychiatric states of patients and, therefore, cannot prevent risks, which highly agitated patients may cause themselves, other nursing home residents and caregivers. This article introduces a new technology capable of overcoming these drawbacks and outlines its prototype system implementation.
