Operation Management and Optimization Techniques in Modern Coke Oven and it's By-Product Gas Treatment Plant

The implementation of a Gas Treatment Plant (GTP) in the Coke Oven unit at Bokaro Steel Plant addresses technical challenges in emission reduction, waste minimization, and environmental and energy conservation, particularly during the engineering phase. Overall, the GTP design incorporates modern features, advanced management, and design enhancements to ensure safe, stable, and long-lasting plant operation. Two optimization strategies were assessed: in the first, focusing solely on purity and concentrations of H2S, NH3, and HCN were found to be 0.54, 0.01 and 0.03 gINm³ respectively. In the second, which considered washing water-temperature, the concentrations of H2S, NH and HCN rose to 1.0, 0.5 and 0.04 gINm³ respectively remaining within environmental regulations. This second approach is more energy-efficient, as it eliminates the need for refrigeration and which requires lower washing-water flow rates.
