An Active Battery Balancing Strategy for Battery Packs in Series

Battery packs are widely used for electric vehicles. However, Battery packs connected in series suffer from weak consistency, reducing available capacity and creating safety issues. The Battery Management System (BMS) is used to address these problems. For the BMS, the paper proposes an active balancing circuit with a fuzzy logic based balancing strategy for series connected battery packs. The simulation results show that the strategy realizes SOC consistency and improves power utilization.
