The Influence of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) on Writing Skills and Attitudes of First-Year EFL Students at the University of Tabuk

In the current educational environment, Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) has become a significant method for enhancing students' English language acquisition and engagement. This research at the University of Tabuk aimed to evaluate the effect of CALL on the English proficiency and attitudes of first-year students. The study utilized a pre-test and post-test design along with a survey questionnaire, with participants randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group from a population of 240 first-year students across six classes during the 2021–2022 academic year. The results demonstrated that CALL positively influenced the English language performance and attitudes of first-year students. Statistical analysis using SPSS 22.0 showed a p-value of 0.00, which is below the significance threshold of 0.05, supporting the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (HO). Additionally, students displayed a positive attitude towards learning English with CALL, with no negative feedback reported. The study also discussed the implications and limitations of these findings.
