Performance Analysis of Resonant Converter Fed Drive for an Electric Vehicle

This paper presents a Reconfigurable Resonant DC-DC Bidirectional Converter designed to overcome the challenges of conventional converters in wide output voltage applications. Traditional designs often face limitations in achieving soft-switching across a broad voltage range, impacting efficiency and reliability. The proposed converter addresses this by employing topology morphing to integrate two resonant networks—CLLC and CLLC-C—enabling efficient voltage regulation over an extended range while operating within a narrow frequency band. The converter is especially well-suited for applications like energy storage systems, distributed energy systems, and electric vehicles that require high efficiency and robust performance. A 500 W laboratory prototype was created to validate the suggested topology. This improves soft-switching performance in both forward and reverse power transfer modes, increasing overall system efficiency. Experimental results confirm its effectiveness, demonstrating superior voltage regulation, efficient soft-switching, and reliable operation under varying load conditions, making it a promising solution for modern power applications.
