Development of Piezoelectric Sensor Using PVDF/PMMA/PSSA Blend

In this research, we developed a custom flexible piezoelectric sensor by constructing PVDF/PMMA/PSSA blends using a solvent casting method. This work concerns the fabrication and characterization of the piezoelectric sensor fabricated from polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSSA). PVDF has always been one of the best piezoelectric material, while PMMA contributes for the mechanical strength and PSSA adds to the electrical conductivity. Some of the characteristics that are measured within the 20Hz-10MHz frequency range are piezoelectricity, dissipation factor, dielectric, and conductivity. The enhanced piezoelectric response shown by the blended sensor compared to pure PVDF is attributed to the combination of PMMA and PSSA interactions with PVDF. It has been demonstrated that this blend shows promise for flexible piezoelectric sensors because of its enhanced mechanical and electrical properties.
