Implementation of a 4:1 Multiplexer Using Compact Modeled Flexible and Low Voltage OTFT for Realizing it as a Universal Logic Gate

The article discusses the utilization of a previously developed organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) with flexibility and bending characteristics for the realization of complex circuits, such as the 4:1 multiplexer. This 4:1 multiplexer function as a universal gate capable of implementing various basic logic gates, including AND, OR, XOR, and XNOR. Silvaco TechModeler and Silvaco Gateway tools are employed for the compact modeling of the fabricated device and the implementation of the 4:1 multiplexer, respectively. The device operates at 1 V and demonstrates favorable performance parameters. Logic gates implemented using the 4:1 multiplexer exhibit favorable transient characteristics for all four possible logic inputs (00, 01, 10, and 11). The Silvaco TechModeler tool achieves compact modeling with approximately 100% accuracy (with an error of less than 1%) between experimental and modeled data. This solution-processed, cost-efficient, and compactly modeled device can be further utilized to realize various complex analog and digital circuits, as well as applications in medical sensing and wearable electronics. Furthermore, the 4:1 multiplexer circuit is expected to be used in the development of higher-order multiplexer circuits, ALU circuits, and other complex systems.
