Alternative Protection of Electrical Installations

The paper presents the principle of operation of the developed maximum current protection, the purpose of which is to protect high-voltage electrical installations from short circuits. The presented protection is performed without using current relays and current transformers (CT) with ferromagnetic cores (including those built into the circuit breaker) widely used in the electric power industry, which have a large weight and dimensional parameters, as well as high cost in comparison with magnetosensitive elements such as reed switches. The proposed protection is made with the use of reed switches. Current protections of electrical installations with the use of reed switches can be used at the moment only as a duplicate to traditional protections, as there is no their wide introduction into production and experience of operation of such protections, i.e. statistical data on these protections are required. At the same time it should be said that such protections are not inferior to traditional protections in terms of speed. The presented protection characterizes an innovative approach in the implementation of relay protection and has the effect of resource-saving materials. The proposed maximum current protection is performed in the form of a device, with its installation inside the circuit breaker located in the cell of a closed switchgear (switchgear) with a voltage equal to 35 kV.
