Experience in the Application of Improved Algorithms for Automatic Control of Electrical and Technological Modes in Arc Steelmaking Furnaces

In this article, a description of the improved control algorithm for RCB burners and injectors of carbon-containing material (CCM) for a modular-type arc steelmaking furnace operating at one of the domestic metallurgical enterprises is presented. A brief characterization of the electric arc furnace (EAF) as the object of research is provided, along with a concise description of the peculiarities of the steelmaking technological process and the existing cooking profiles. Statistical data from a large sample of heats is analysed, part of which was conducted using old control algorithms for oxygen injectors and carbon-containing material injectors, while the other part was conducted using a new algorithm that utilizes information about the harmonic composition of electric arc currents. Based on the obtained information, experimentally justified conclusions are made regarding the effectiveness of the new algorithm and its impact on the energy consumption of the furnace installation.
