Toward the Use of a Block of Two Planar Spiral Solenoids in High-Temperature Magnetostrictive Sensors Based on Torsional Waves

Today, high-temperature linear displacement sensors are in demand in rocket and space technology, as part of the reactor compartments of nuclear power plant units, for measuring the position of a turbine servomotor, and for determining the position of electric arc furnace electrodes in the steel industry. Magnetostrictive sensors of linear displacements are the most suitable for these tasks, but their application is limited by the used materials with low Curie point and the use of coil products in the design. Therefore, the actual task is to create high-temperature magnetostrictive displacement sensors capable of operating at ambient temperatures up to +600 °C, while maintaining the stability and accuracy of measurements. In order to achieve the set objectives, the use of a design containing two planar solenoids located on ceramic substrates is proposed. The use of a unit consisting of two planar solenoids al-lows to summarize the output signals formed by each of the solenoids and contributes to the in-crease in the amplitude of the output signal. In addition, this design also allows to obtain a difference signal, which can be used for more complex processing of the measurement signal. Computational experiments and experimental verification were carried out to investigate the amplitude and shape of the output signal when changing the parameters of the solenoids and the distance between them. The experimental studies have fully confirmed the results of theoretical studies and computational experiments.
