Parameterizations of the Ocean Skin Effect of Insat-3D/3Dr SST Using Insitu SST Observations

This paper used the INSAT-3D and 3DR SST (Skin) and Buoys bulk SST and examined their difference to characterise the ocean skin effects, which are cool skin and warm skin effects. The wind speed, diurnal effects and net long wave radiation flux responsible for these effects. Hence a three-step sequential correction scheme is applied for wind effect, net long wave radiation flux and diurnal effects. This correction method effectively reduced the errors associated with the skin layer effects of INSAT-3D/3DR SST and in conversion to bulk SST. The model performance has been assessed with the existing parameterization schemes of skin effects published and presented in this paper. For climate studies, these corrections are vital step in blending INSAT-SST with in situ SST observations.
