Design Evaluation of Flag-Shaped Wind Energy Harvesters

Piezoelectric wind energy harvesters (PWEHs) offer a cutting-edge method for generating power for autonomous devices by converting wind energy into electrical power using piezoelectric materials. This research presents a new PWEH design with a flag-like structure and explores its performance under various wind conditions through experimental assessments. The study examines the geometric impact of a dual-segment PWEH flag setup and investigates the relationship between output power and external load resistance. The findings reveal that the highest power output was obtained with a dual-segment flag composed of also mm × 70 mm aluminum base and a 50 mm × 70 mm polyester fabric. Under optimal conditions, specifically, a wind speed of 9 m/s and an external load resistance of 510 kΩ, this configuration achieved an output power of approximately 4 mW/cm3. These results underscore the substantial potential of PWEHs as a viable and sustainable energy solution for autonomous devices.
