Microprocessor Switching Activity Translation to AC Gate Oxide Wearout: Does it Matter? INTEL4 Meteor Lake Chip Activity Case Study

The INTEL4 Meteor Lake CPU has been used as a case study to demonstrate limitations in leveraging transistor-level AC TDDB benefits. By analyzing toggling activity, thermal and power constraints, and CPU management techniques using telemetry data with 50 Million hours and 50 thousand samples, we find that most transistors do not switch frequently enough to gain significant improvements in lifetime.
