Challenges of Corpus-Based Contrastive Studies: a Case Study of the English “Make”-Construction and its Ukrainian Counterpart

The object of this case study are two frequent causative constructions in English and Ukrainian, belonging to the type of non-finite complement constructions. The main aim is to showcase that two separate corpora (COCA and GRAC) can be used to harvest data for the contrastive analysis, provided that there is a correct choice of tertium comparationis, capturing a certain pattern, and reflected in the query built. The theoretical background relies a lot on the insights from the Usage-Based Construction Grammar.
