Safety Assessment and Fault Tolerance in eVTOL Aircraft Flight Control System: Current Status and Challenges

With the integration and development of technologies in the fields of electric aviation, unmanned driving, artificial intelligence(AI), and information communication, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft has been applied in recent years, which can effectively solve the problem of ground traffic congestion. However, an important factor restricting its commercialization is airworthiness (safety and reliability). The flight control system (FCS) is the brain of the eVTOL aircraft, and its safety and reliability directly affect the operation of the whole aircraft. This paper takes the existing civil aircraft, military aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles as reference objects, and combines their existing SAFT technologies to explore and summarize the research status, technical routes and its challenges of the eVTOL aircraft. In response to these challenges, this paper finally puts forward our own thinking and solutions to promote the healthy and rapid development of the entire eVTOL aircraft industry.
