Web Dynamic Stress Identification and Damping Analysis of High-Speed Spiral Bevel Gear

Thin-walled spiral bevel gears, operating at high speeds, inevitably exhibit multiple high-order nodal diameter (ND) vibration resonance points. Excessive vibration intensity can lead to high-cycle fatigue, causing fractures in the gear web. Therefore, identifying dangerous vibration modes and reducing web dynamic stress (WDS) are crucial for the overall health of the transmission system. This study establishes a single-mode forced response (SMFR) analysis model through prestressed modal analysis and traveling-wave vibration (TWV) analysis to identify dangerous vibration modes within the operating speed range. The model is validated using the finite element method (FEM). To mitigate the intensity of identified dangerous vibration modes, an additional ring damper is introduced to modify the SMFR model, and the effects of ring damper with different structure parameters are also evaluated. The high-speed dynamic measurement experimental platform is established to verify the accuracy of the SMFR model and the vibration reduction effectiveness of the ring damper. This research provides a theoretical foundation for identifying dangerous vibration modes and using ring damper for vibration reduction in thin-walled spiral bevel gears in aviation engines.
