Computational electromagnetics (CEM) is heavily intertwined with the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). Effective designs for antennas and EM systems motivated accurate simulation tools that continuously exhausted the available computer resources. This two-part article traces the development of computational tools and techniques and ties them to milestones in computer hardware, the growth and development of the AP-S, and some historical events throughout the world.
