A Smart Glasses System for Quantitative Monitoring of Visual Behavior and Myopia-Related Environmental Factors

The shift in modern lifestyles, particularly the increased use of electronic devices, has exacerbated visual behavior patterns, leading to a rise in myopia and dry eye syndrome. However, quantitative tools to measure specific contributing factors and assess their impact remain insufficient. This study presents a novel wearable system for continuous monitoring of visual habits. By integrating image recognition and multimodal sensor data, the system accurately analyzes object distances and identifies myopia-related activities, such as reading, computer use, mobile phone use, and outdoor activities, with a 96.87% accuracy rate. The system supports continuous recording and analysis for up to 9 h with a 10-s sampling interval, enabling the collection of crucial quantitative data on eye-use-related environmental factors, thus surpassing the limitations of subjective questionnaire-based assessments.
