IoT-Based Vehicle Occupant Detection and Alert System for Child and Pet Safety

Every year, many children and pets suffocate to death in locked vehicles due to lack of oxygen and heat. This research aims to develop a cost-effective, easy-to-install IoT-based safety system to prevent deaths and keep victims safe. The device detects presence using motion sensors after confirming no adult is inside through a pressure sensor. An infrared camera increases detection reliability. To help the victim, the device triggers alarms, lowers windows, activates ventilation, and sends an SMS to a caretaker. It also calls authorities and shares the car's location when carbon dioxide or temperature exceeds limits. The system includes sensors for motion, carbon dioxide, temperature, and pressure. A Raspberry Pi controls actuators based on sensor outputs. The device was successfully implemented and tested, showing excellent results.
