Improving Environmental Situation at Paint and Varnish Production Facilities

The production of goods and provision of services is increasing exponentially worldwide and, as a result, humans are polluting more and more of our planet's water resources. According to the environmental report, the volume of wastewater that does not meet standards remains quite large: more than 10% of polluted water is discharged without treatment, more than 30% is insufficiently treated, and the share of recycled (reused) water use in gross water consumption for industrial needs has remained almost unchanged in recent years and is about 81%. This paper develops and presents a modern wastewater treatment system for paint and varnish production, which allows to significantly improve the environmental situation and meet modern environmental protection requirements. This treatment system includes several stages that sequentially remove different types of pollutants in the pre-treatment, main and final treatment units. That allows to achieve the required standard values of concentrations at the system output for the presented pollutants, for which a detailed analysis of their composition in the waste water of paint and varnish production was carried out, which is important for determining the most effective (verified by experimental studies) and low-cost treatment methods.
