Estimation of the Charge Time of a Periodic Thermal Energy Storage Device with a High-Temperature Heat Accumulator

Heat energy storage is considered as one of the potential technologies that can significantly improve the efficiency of energy supply systems by storing and releasing energy as needed. The article proposes a new design of a heat energy storage device with a high-temperature thermal accumulator. The principle of its operation is described. The aim of the work is to study the charging process of a thermal energy storage device with a high-temperature thermal accumulator of periodic action. The main stages and calculation formulas of the developed iterative algorithm for calculating the geometric dimensions of thermal insulation, temperature field and energy storage charge time are presented. During the iterative calculations, the operating modes of the energy storage device were determined, as well as the charging state. Under certain operating and charging conditions, it is possible to accumulate up to 64279.1 MJ of thermal energy, its full charging takes 12.2 hours.
