A Low-Cost Weight Based Automation for Warehouse Item Fetching and Billing System

The rise of ecommerce and online shopping and fast delivery requirements has led to a need for warehouses which require very quick and efficient fetching of products from its shelves. The need of making the system efficient and error proof needs the process to be automated to the largest extent possible. The use of robotics to automate warehouse operations has been the most obvious choice. The massive scale of robots makes the use of multiple robots a default choice, but it also brings about the challenges of ensuring that the bots work seamlessly to achieve the goal of automation. A number of existing solutions require a high end bot capable of image processing and mapping which make the bot expensive for use and maintenance. The paper explores the possibility of a low cost of implementation of an automated multi bot system capable of communicating among themselves to fetch the items in a warehouse using a weight based approach to categorize the automated fetching of items. The paper provides a comparative analysis of manual versus automated systems to show that the lower cost does not compromise the accuracy or the time for fetching of items.
