Modeling and Performance Analysis of Novel Asymmetric 11-Level Solar Inverter Using PDPWM Technique

This paper presents a novel asymmetric 11-level solar multilevel inverter (MLI), modeled using the Phase Disposition Pulse Width Modulation (PDPWM) technique for home application. Three solar photovoltaic (PV) panels with a 1: 1:3 ratio, optimized for maximum efficiency in power conversion within residential environments, are being used to harness power in the proposed inverter. One salient feature of the proposed design is the reduced form of switch topology with only 7 switches to obtain the desired output of 11 levels, which has minimized both complexity and switching losses. Therefore, it has been developed, based on a totally new coherent mathematical model to simulate the performance of the inverter under practical operating conditions by improving efficiency, reducing total harmonic distortion (THD), and enhancing quality of the output voltage. In summary, this work shows many improvements of efficiency and performance with solar-based systems and offers a strong cost-effective solution for residential renewable energy applications.
