A Study on Emulating the Real-Time Effect of Antibody Shape and Orientation on the Sensing Performance of a Unique Gated Resistor Nanowire-Based Electronic Biosensor

A comprehensive performance investigation into the sensing domain of a novel silicon gated resistor nanowire-based electronic biosensor in terms of a couple of sensing performance metrics—threshold voltage sensitivity and on-current/off-current sensitivity—has been thoroughly reported in this article. For the first time, a radical analysis considering the real-time complexity of “Y”-shaped antibodies and their interactions or bindings with two different biomolecules having two different k-values and sizes has been introduced. This scrutiny reveals significant deviations in both the sensitivity values—e.g., for the threshold voltage sensitivity, the deviation ranges from approximately 93% to 180%—with reference to the commonly adopted or generic simplified ideal models. The study also highlights the capability of the sensor to detect multiple types of biomolecules using some particular types of antibody orientation, thereby, singling out two specific orientations—side-on and lying-on, respectively. Moreover, this article includes a study on the selectivity of the projected biosensor between the two types of biomolecules concerned for the side-on and the lying-on antibody orientations.
