Impact of Cloud-Based Enterprise Systems on Enhancing Business Model Performance in Retail SMEs

This study investigates the impact of cloud-based enterprise systems on enhancing business model performance in retail SMEs, focusing on cost-effectiveness and agility. Using a qualitative research design, the study conducted in-depth interviews with retail SMEs and IT solution providers in Sri Lanka to explore adoption drivers, challenges, and enabling factors. Key findings highlight the importance of top management support, technological readiness, and vendor reliability in successful implementation while addressing barriers such as data migration complexities, employee resistance, and security concerns. A comprehensive framework for phased adoption was developed and validated, emphasizing customization, compliance, and continuous evaluation to align with SME-specific needs. The research provides actionable strategies to help retail SMEs leverage cloud technologies for sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and competitive advantage in the digital marketplace.
