Sustainability in Action: Analyzing the Triple-Bottom-Line in Indian MSME Businesses

The present study delves into the sustainability practices of micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) in India with a particular focus on the triple-bottom-line concept-profit, people, and planet. Amidst the growing significance of sustainability, this study assesses the consciousness, actions, and impacts of MSMEs. MSMEs play a very significant role in achieving balanced economic growth, social well-being, and environmental preservation. The performance of a diverse set of 208 industries is evaluated on ecological, economic, and social parameters. The findings suggest that MSMEs emphasize wealth creation while showcasing strides in energy conservation, waste recycling, and financial stability, and areas for improvement are identified accordingly. The research study contributes to the understanding of MSMEs' sustainability landscape, providing direction for future research to explore nuanced dimensions and enhance their role in holistic, sustainable development.
