Reinforcing Kubernetes Security: A Gap Analysis and Modern Security Practices for Enterprise

In today's Cloud and DevOps landscape, Kubernetes is a cornerstone technology widely adopted by startup to enterprises and government agencies across the industries. As Kubernetes continues to evolve, so do the methods used by attackers to exploit its vulnerabilities, making robust security practices essential. This paper conducts a gap analysis of a previously published study on Kubernetes security practices, identifying areas where existing guidelines fall short in addressing emerging threats and challenges. Building on this analysis, I propose a new set of enterprise-level security practices designed to help IT professionals secure their Kubernetes ecosystems in both public cloud and on-premises environments. The methodology used in this paper includes a comprehensive review of the 2020 Kubernetes security dataset, followed by expert-driven analysis to identify and fill gaps in current practices.
