Recovering Below LVD Li-ion Batteries for BMS Based Rechargeable Electrical Appliances

Lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) stand as the foremost choice for energy storage in today's industry. Commonly, the south Asian countries import those Li-ion batteries from abroad and store those in warehouse for manufacturing rechargeable electronics devices. In our industry, Li-ion batteries ranging from 4.2V HVD to 2.8V LVD are commonly used. Storing Li-ion batteries for a long time reduces the voltage of the battery below LVD rendering the integrated recharging circuit ineffective, as the battery management system rejects below LVD batteries. To address this issue, a charging method is proposed in this paper incorporating TP4056 IC to facilitate forced charging, accompanied by comprehensive protection measures such as overcharge, over-discharge, and overcurrent protection. Results indicate that these batteries can be efficiently recharged within a 240-minute forced charging cycle, providing backup for more than 180 minutes, again can be recharged using device incorporated charging circuit in charging second cycle and still demonstrate a healthy backup time in discharging second cycle. Additionally, the paper examines the temperature profile during both charging and discharging processes.
