Advanced Driver System for Enhanced Efficiency in Emergency Led Lights

This paper represents an optimized driver circuit for emergency LED lights providing higher wattage, featuring battery management system (BMS) and intelligent power failure detection. The driver circuit has been designed to support an 18W emergency bulb and the battery capacity of this light was increased to 3600mAh. The primary objectives of this research are to ensure that the driver supports higher output, a high-power factor with high efficiency, adaptability to rough electrical conditions and an efficient BMS. The proposed system integrates multiple sections, including a buck regulator constant current IC, an LC filter, a joule thief circuit, and a battery protection IC. This ensures persistent performance, over charging protection, over discharging protection and swift errorless power outage detection. Testing results show a higher efficiency up to 89.8% with a power factor of 96.3% and lower current and voltage harmonic distortion of 26.6% and 0.2% respectively. Also to demonstrate the battery efficiency the driver shows a backup duration over 180 minutes. The driver is also able to charge at high and low voltage condition. Photometric tests verified stable lumen output in both AC connection mode and emergency DC backup mode. This integrated system satisfies the performance goals.
