Modeling & Control of SPV Integration with HESS

A recent increase in electrical energy generation from renewable sources poses significant challenges in continuously providing and maintaining efficient, reliable, high-quality power. Integrating energy storage systems (ESS) with renewable sources is a promising option. Integrating different ESSs, commonly known as hybrid energy storage systems (HESS), is an ongoing research that seeks to utilize their advantages. This paper discusses the collaboration of SPV array with HESS consisting of a battery energy storage system(BESS) and Solid Oxide Fuel Cell(SOFC) with their power electronic interfacing(PEI) and a DC bus as a test system. Additionally, it also presents an averaged linear small-signal model of a test system. The authors implemented two control algorithms in this paper using MATLAB/Simulink software.: 1) A fuzzy-based algorithm to track the SPV array maximum power point(MPP). 2) An outer voltage control loop to maintain DC bus voltage and an inner current control loop algorithm to regulate the HESS to meet the load requirement.
