Review Study on Polar Encoding/Decoding, Applications and Challenges

High speed communication became an essential necessity in the modern lifestyle. Therefore, new coding techniques were developed to fulfill the needs for such speeds required by the latest communication systems such as the 5G. One of the prominent coding schemes that attracted the attention of the developers is the polar coding that guarantees near Shannon channel capacity speed limit. However, the polar codes decoding is difficult due to the soft detection of the received data. Despite that, the polar coding is implemented in submersive vessels, adverse nonlinear channels and deeps space communication. This paper presents a review on the polar encoding/decoding from the theory, techniques point of view, areas of implementation and challenges facing the polar codes for future applications.
