Communication Protocols in PLC-Based Data Acquisition for Wastewater Management

Wastewater treatment facilities are necessary to safeguard the environment and lessen the harmful effects of contaminated water. To create pure water fit for human consumption, these treatments go through several exacting procedures in both their chemical and electrical stages. To obtain necessary advantages, such as using them to produce electrical energy and other advantages, chemical compounds and fertilizers can also be extracted. In addition to programmable logic controllers with high accuracy, resilience, and quick reaction times for decision-making, processors and monitoring systems are needed to prevent any malfunction that could interrupt the treatment and jeopardize human consumption. Through a communication system that depends on quickly obtaining and reacting to data, this study will make use of programmable logic controllers (PLC), which depend on dependable communication networks and quick transmission and reception speeds. Furthermore, transmitting and receiving signals guarantees exact error detection protection and correct synchronization in the event that any communication system component fails. A highly reliable and accurate communication network based on communication protocols is achieved when the PLC sends its data over long distances and, depending on the cables used, whether optical fiber or others, to the main center of the SCADA system to process the data according to the proposed scenario. This is because the system operates in real-time, which explains why it achieves acquisition and processing in a short amount of time, approximately 10 milliseconds, or the total time to acquire and process all system parameters reaches 140 milliseconds.
