Algorithm and Implementation of Simulation Study of Linear (6, 3) Block Codes Using Spreadsheets

The importance of linear block codes for modern communication systems justifies the need for the research presented in the publication. The paper describes an algorithm and developed MS Excel-based module for simulation research of linear (6, 3) block codes, which will be used in the training process in the course "Coding in Telecommunication Systems", included as an elective in the curriculum of the specialty "Internet and Mobile Communications", for the educational and qualification degree "Bachelor", at the University of Ruse. The module allows the investigation of 24 options of linear (6, 3) block codes based on the generator and control matrices. The laws for coding and verification of the considered linear block codes are derived. The module allows tracing the process of obtaining the codeword for a given information sequence (Encoder), as well as the process of detecting and correcting a single error for a given codeword (Decoder). The developed training module contributes to the educational process by increasing students' understanding of encoding and decoding concepts, increasing the interest of students studying the course "Coding in Telecommunication Systems" and improving their practical skills. It also serves to automate the procedure of generating assignments for independent work of students during practical exercises. Using MS Excel, the module provides an interactive platform that facilitates students' learning and makes complex concepts more accessible. Future work envisages the expansion of the module with the inclusion of other linear block (n, k)-codes. Expanding the module with new linear block codes will improve the learning experience and highlight the importance of adapting educational resources to new technologies.
