Smartguard: An IoT-Enabled Real-Time Monitoring System for Urban Manhole Safety

The proposed system is a revolutionary low-cost long-term solution for manhole safety, provided with IoT monitoring. The features of subterranean drainage conditions are unpredictable, and this prevents human inspection systems from being reliable. Smartguard overcomes these challenges by utilizing an extensive wireless sensor network and IoT monitoring technologies combined with a real-time monitoring framework. The sensors are employed alongside GSM and Wi-Fi modules to provide a separation-based approach solution that enables the secure long-distance transition of the data to the central station. The software is based on Twilio and SMTP and provides the data processing and the resultant email and SMS alerts in LSTM networks are designed for the predictive analytics. As the current study indicates, the accuracy of identifying gas leaks, water levels, and obstructions is, in general, significantly high. The increase amounts to 95, 93, and 96%, respectively. Similarly, false alarms are also decreased as well as the response rate when compared to the existing systems. Thus, Smartguard is an important solution in the overall assessment of urban infrastructure management, as it guarantees improved sustainability, operational efficiency, and safety.
