Variable Speed Wind Turbine Control System with Doubly-Fed Induction Generator

As wind farms expand in size, it becomes increasingly important to evaluate the stability of the power system, including dynamic models for wind power generation. Among the most widely used generators today are doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs). These generators allow for the regulation of the reactive and active powers via the rotor-side converter, when the stator remains directly linked with the network. This paper examines the control of a variable-speed wind turbine (WT) that uses a DFIG, focusing on both steady-state and dynamic performance. − The control strategy is evaluated through simulation, demonstrating how variable-speed turbines with DFIG can regulate their output power, much like conventional power plants.
