Kolkas : Developing a Mobile Application for Sustainable Food Waste Management

Food is a fundamental human requirement for survival. Food-related businesses are expanding as population and economy grow. Furthermore, the demand for food is increasing. Along with this incident, food waste is the most significant type of waste in Indonesia. The primary causes of the rise in food waste are a lack of grocery planning, excess food, and the processing of the wrong foodstuffs. Food waste is defined as food that has expired or food that final consumers discard. Food distributors, the food service industry, and households are the largest producers of food waste. This platform enables restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, and individuals to sell inexpensive leftovers. In addition, there are features to regulate and change people's behavior in shopping for food and educate on food waste recycling. This research is using design thinking method to describe the design process of Kolkas mobile apps. Researchers distributed questionnaires to collect data from some people. This data collection aims to determine people's habits in disposing of food waste and to determine public awareness of food waste. The researcher also wants to know the public's interest in using online food delivery service applications to reduce the impact of food waste. The output of this research is developing mobile applications that provide features for sustainable food waste management. Hopefully this research can be implemented in society.
