Early Detection of Nipah Virus Infection Using Convolutional Neural Networks: A Deep Learning Approach

Nipah virus infection is a lightning-fast, high-lethality zoonotic disease that is significantly important from a public health perspective. Diagnosis of Nipah virus infection as early and precisely as possible is critical for effective intervention and prevention. This research presents the application of a deep learning technique, namely CNN, in detecting Nipah virus infection using medical imaging data. The proposed work introduces a state-of-the-art CNN architecture that leverages its efficient feature extraction and classification competencies to achieve dependable detection performance. All medical images used in this dataset were labeled and pre-processed for uniformity and quality, both for training and validation. Augmentation of data and tuning of hyperparameters optimized the training of the model. This yields an overall accuracy of classification of 87%. Though the overall loss can be relatively lower at about 11%, the model shows consistency in all its validation metrics, hence strong enough for infection pattern detection. These findings indicate that CNNs could be a diagnostic tool in detecting Nipah virus infections, thus enabling quicker and more efficient decision-making on the clinical front. Though the approach is scalable, it is widely adaptive for broader applications in infectious disease diagnostics. There are, however, acknowledged challenges with dataset limitations and generalization to real-world scenarios, pointing toward opportunities for further research to advance such accuracy and reliability. The study has concluded that deep learning-based models, such as CNN, hold tremendous potential to improve early detection of infection with the Nipah virus, eventually controlling the disease's spread and improving patient outcomes.
