A strategic suspension is needed: an analysis on the pace of robotaxi's commercialization

In recent years, Chinese auto companies' autonomous driving technology has developed rapidly, and the government has also formulated certain policies on related services. Some enterprises, relying on the advantages of autonomous driving technology or network platforms, have begun to aspire to provide transportation services in the form of autonomous taxis, also known as "robotaxi". In July, robotaxi attracted great attention from the public, with the public and practitioners in related industries holding many different views on the business model. Whether robotaxis are suitable for formal commercial operation in the short term has become an urgent question to be answered. This paper mainly studies the differences between autonomous and manual driving, the differences between autonomous taxi services and existing taxi services, and the regulatory issues of autonomous driving services, and makes a comprehensive analysis of the current development level of autonomous taxi and the current policy environment. It believes that commercial operation should not be carried out before a series of problems are solved. This paper analyzes the key areas that need to be improved in the future autonomous taxi service, and puts forward constructive suggestions on the pace of government policy formulation and the matters that need attention.
