Research on I&C Platform Failure of Reactor Protection System in RCCA Rod Drop Accident

The principal protection against Rod Cluster Control Assembly (RCCA) rod drop accident for HPR1000 is the reactor trip on high negative neutron flux rate of Reactor Protection System (RPS). However, Common Cause Failure (CCF) of the RPS causes the failure of the reactor trip function. Research on I&C platform failure of RPS in RCCA rod drop accident is conducted, with the study on neutronic parameters and thermal transient. The analysis results show that fuel failure does not occur in RCCA rod drop accident with RPS failure even though there is not any reactor trip protection function. This research can provide theoretical support for the optimization of RCCA rod drop accident analysis methodology, the improvement of diverse actuation system, and the enhancement of defense in depth capability for new-designed reactor.
